Modder turns Legion Go handheld into a chunky mini laptop

Lenovo’s Legion Go gaming handheld, which recently got a full-fat sequel, is built different from other Steam Deck-style devices. And that’s not just marketing speak. The gadget’s most distinctive feature is its removable Switch-style controllers and kickstand, making it a tiny PC gaming tablet. One modder decided that’s not good enough and made it into a tiny PC gaming laptop instead.

By 3D-printing a custom frame for the central tablet design, then tossing in a Lenovo keyboard and a ton of extra batteries in the bottom section, Reddit user MysteriousAlarm897 created a tiny 8.8-inch laptop out of the Legion Go hardware.

It’s a chunky little thing, about three inches thick by the photos, but the fit and finish is great for a custom project. As Liliputing notes, there’s also a custom USB-C hub built into the base to give it extra ports, and it has cutouts for air circulation and speakers. It’s a tidy little setup that I’m sure took a few iterations. A “slim” version of the design dispenses with the extra battery pack and shaves off an inch or so.

The Legion Go is proving to be a popular option for 3D-printed projects thanks to its flexibility, and at least one Etsy seller makes a keyboard attachment that makes the little device more like a Microsoft Surface. I wonder if the Legion Go 2 will inspire the same kind of creativity… or if its prohibitive price tag will scare people away.
